Films around Cheltenham from 5/2/22

Sorry folks, another week in which we haven’t really had time to consider the offerings at Cineworld, The Tivoli and The Sherborne. The links are below.

The Roses

There is one more screening of Nine Days on Tuesday morning at the allegedly prompt start time of 11.15 and several more screenings of Belfast. The new film this week is Cicada directed by Kieran Mulcare and Matthew Fifer. It is described as a romantic drama and is set in New York where a young bisexual man develops a close relationship with a closeted man. They share details of their childhood traumas which they had previously been unable to confide in anyone else.

On Friday, two films new to The Roses, but not to our locality, open: Parallel Mothers and Nightmare Alley. Parallel Mothers is the latest from Pedro Almodavar, and is the story of two women whose lives intersect when they give birth on the same day, an event which leads to a strong bond developing between them. Nightmare Alley, directed by Guillermo del Toro, is a remake, of sorts, of the 1947 film directed by Edmund Goulding and starring Tyrone Power. The new version has all the current Hollywood favourites – Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara et al – and is a tale of a carnival showman and a mysterious psychiatrist joining forces to swindle rich folks.

The Guildhall

Further screenings of last week’s films – Boiling Point, Save the Cinema, The King’s Man and Belfast. Licorice Pizza, which has been around for a while, opens there on Friday

The Cineworlds

The Tivoli
