Next week the Roses has Mr Malcolm’s List, directed by Emma Holly Jones and described as a “witty Regency romcom”. (Sigh). The eponymous Mr Malcolm (Sope Dirisu) has a list of the qualities he requires in a future wife. When jilted Julia (Zawe Ashton) discovers she doesn’t fit the person specification she is determined to gain her revenge. The foreign language film of the week is Robust, directed by Constance Mayer and starring Gérard Depardieu and Déborah Lukumuena. Depardieu plays an ailing and cantankerous film star whose assistant and only friend has to go away for a time. He is replaced by Aissa, played by Déborah Lukumuena, a semi-pro wrestler and security guard. Despite an unpromising start to their association as the film progresses the characters discover they have more in common than they first thought. Depardieu is on top form and although it might sound an odd thing to say about him he gives an understated performance in this film and never tries to upstage his co-star Déborah Lukumuena, who also gives an excellent performance. There is also another chance to see Elvis, Baz Luhrmann’s flamboyant film about the life of The King (PW)

I notice that the Guildhall in Gloucester is advertising live shows from September 17th, so perhaps there will soon be a new programme of films as well. (PW)
