Voices from the Movie Graveyard

Those of you who follow film in Cheltenham closely will no doubt be aware of the cluster**** surrounding the International Film Festival. Having been part of it some years ago, I’ve let it slip away, but I like film and [grits teeth] I have a passing regard for Cheltenham so I am trying to pull the parties together and get things moving. If I have to unite them in opposition to me, so be it.

More constructively, I am working on my own modest programme of site-specific, interest-specific events. By that I mean films about religion in churches, films about food in restaurants, films about bikes in bike shops, films about music in music venues. I’m not interested in ‘the industry’, which has betrayed film in favour of the illusory income from streaming.

Anyway, my whole online empire has withered away like the state, thanks to my lack of interest. I’m trying to revive it with the help of various data spods, and this is by way of a test transmission to see:

a) whether the mailing list works and

b) whether anyone is still connected to my mailing list and

c) whether anyone is interested.

If you do get it, please reply or contact me via old fashioned methods. email: mail@johnmorrish.com, phone: 077 88 515387, post: 2 Priory Mews, Sidney Street, Cheltenham, GL52 6DJ. I know it looks like a hovel. You can judge a book by its cover, but it’s not the most. important part. It’s quite nice inside. Knock and I’ll give you a cup of tea.

  1. Thanks for your message. I am up for a revival – in more ways than one – but was not sure how – ie to work out the respond to details below bit in your posting. Let me know if I can help.

    1. Hi Chris. Yes, the comments do still work. Apparently! I get them sent through to my email. I’ll be in touch. I’m hoping to rally people for ground-up enthusiasm-led film events. I’m not interested in mimicking the ‘official’ festivals or rivalling Cannes. I have lots of ideas and need a few people with a bit of time.
